How The Law of Cause and Effect Affects You and Your Business

By: Hina Khan

We’ve all heard of the expression “You reap what you sow.” It’s an accepted axiom that essentially lets us know that nothing occurs by happenstance. This is one way of describing what Ralph Waldo Emerson called “The law of laws” – the Law of Cause and Effect. And that law states: “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” And we all know that nothing happens by chance or outside the Universal Laws. So understanding the Law of Cause and Effect is important!

The universe is always in motion – we live in an ocean of motion. When we think, say or do anything, it sets off an unseen vibration chain reaction which will eventually return to us in ways we may not initially foresee. So in this regard, we are the authors of our destiny. What we put out there, comes back to us. Again, we return to reaping what we sow. So what does this have to do with your business?

Imagine you plant some carrot seeds. You wouldn’t expect them to grow overnight. You understand that you would have to tend to them – water them, make sure the soil is nourished properly and keeping any pests and animals away from them. You know, through the understanding of basic biology of plants, that in a few months you will be pulling carrots out of the ground. You work from the premise of that basic understanding. You have faith that they will grow.

The same can be said about your business. It’s seasonal – that is, there are going to be times when you must sow and there are times when you are going to reap. You may be doing both as you go along, but generally there is a down time of growth and hibernation. I mention this because so many people give up on their businesses because they don’t understand that they are in the sowing season! We expect to be harvesting all the time, but it isn’t always the case. We need to tend to our businesses, sometimes allowing things to grow underneath the ground, to maintain conditions which fosters that growth and the faith of understanding that these things will manifest.

A lot of business people lose faith before the harvest. They feel that they aren’t getting the results they want in the time they want, and so they abandon their dreams. They don’t realize they are literally just a few weeks, days or even hours away from their harvest. If they understand the Law of Cause and Effect, they will know that in putting the positive and intentional work in, that there will be a return…it’s just a matter of waiting for the time to reap the rewards. Price Pritchett once wrote “Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.” He also says “Focus constantly on a clear picture of what you want to accomplish, and move toward it confidently, the unseen forces rally to your support.” That is, just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean that it’s not coming. Have faith that what you’re doing will bring rewards.

It’s the law.
